Firstly I would like to thank all our Renaissance community for your patience and understanding during what has been an unprecedented and difficult period for all members of the school community.
In line with the correspondence No. 749/GDDT-VP, Renaissance International School will reopen for Year 13 students on Monday 09 March 2020 and other year groups will remain closed until further notice.
Please find below the relevant procedures related to COVID-19.
COVID-19 PREVENTATIVE PROCEDURES
1. If you have visited China, Korea, Italy or Iran or come into close contact with someone who has, DO NOT send your child/ren to school until after fourteen days from the time you returned to HCMC. This list of countries is subject to change on the advice of the government.
2. Please check your child/ren’s temperature before sending them to school. If your child/ren has a fever or exhibits any of the other symptoms – cough, sore throat and shortness of breath – DO NOT send them to school but rather make an appointment to see a doctor so that the exact nature of the illness can be determined.
3. The school will be undertaking temperature checks over the course of the next few weeks and any student with a temperature above 37.5 degrees will be sent to the Nurse’ office. If, after a second temperature check, a fever is confirmed the student will be quarantined and parents contacted to collect him/ her immediately. In such cases, it is the responsibility of the parent/s to update the school on the student’s condition and medical prognosis.
Once sent home, a child can only return to school after submitting a medical clearance from a doctor.
4. All students who exhibit any symptoms of a respiratory illness (e.g., cough, runny nose, sore throat, difficulty breathing) will be referred to the Nurse’s Office. The Nurse will do a detailed assessment and history to determine if the child should be sent home.
5. Parents will be required to drop off their child/ren at the front gate as this will speed up the temperature checking procedures. Of an afternoon, and until further notice, students will be collected from the area inside the front gate which means that no parents or guardians will be allowed inside the school.
6. As per the advice of the Department of Health, the wearing of masks is optional but masks will need to be supplied by individual parents and the student must know how to wear it correctly.
Apart from temperature checking the school will be:
1. Requiring that all students travelling on the buses wear a face mask.
2. Conducting temperature checks on all students twice per day.
3. Conducting temperature checks on all faculty and staff.
4. Providing more hand sanitizers and reinforcing healthy practice amongst our students.
5. Working closely with other international schools to ensure a common response to the threats posed by the virus.
6. Hiring an additional nurse on a short-term basis.
7. The school has been thoroughly cleaned all areas are disinfected on a regular basis.
Personal Precautions
1. Wash your hands often. Use soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer, rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds.
2. Always cough or sneeze into your bent elbow or a tissue.
3. Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms.
4. Avoid contact with farm animals or wild animals.
In closing please rest assured that we are doing everything possible to counter the threats posed by the coronavirus and that the welfare of all members of the Renaissance community is our top priority.
Your help, however, in supporting the measures outlined above is crucial and despite the inconvenience that some measures may pose, I trust for your full support and understanding.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Gittins
Head of School
